Getting Around: City Bus from Airport to Walt Disney World

If you are traveling light (i.e. one carry-on) and you are on a really tight budget, it is possible to take a public bus from the airport to Walt Disney World and accomplish your trip for less than the cost of the tip you would pay a taxi or shuttle driver!

Take Bus 111 from the airport. (Click here for the bus schedule.) The trip from Orlando International Airport to the Hotel Plaza Blvd stop (near Downtown Disney) takes about 55 minutes, or to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) at Walt Disney World takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. Service runs about every 60 minutes during the day.

The cost is $2.00 one way. For kids (18 and under) and seniors (65+) it's $1.00 each way. Children 6 and under ride free (limit 3) when accompanied by a full-fare paying adult (over 18) passenger. Only $1 bills and change are accepted.

The bus picks up at Baggage Claim A. Follow the signs for public bus. If your luggage arrives on side B you'll have to walk back across the airport to catch the bus.

Hotel Plaza Blvd Stop

The Hotel Plaza Blvd stop is near Downtown Disney. The drop-off is near the Regal Sun Resort and the pick-up is across the street. If you use this stop, you can go across the street to Downtown Disney Marketplace and get on a Disney bus to any Disney resort. This is the closest stop if you are staying at any of the Epcot/Studios area Disney resorts, Old Key West or Saratoga Springs. If you are staying at any of the Downtown Disney hotels, just walk up Hotel Plaza Blvd to your hotel.

Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) Stop

When you get to the TTC you can take the ferry across to the Magic Kingdom and catch the bus to any of Disney's resorts. This is the closest stop if you are staying at any of the Magic Kingdom/Animal Kingdom area Disney resorts. If you are staying off-site, many local hotels have buses from the TTC parking lot -- be sure to check the hotel's schedule.

If you have a late flight on the last day of your stay, after you check out of your hotel you can store your luggage at the lockers at the TTC and spend the day at the Magic Kingdom, then leave the Magic Kingdom at least a half-hour before the bus is due, which will give you time to get your luggage and be waiting for the bus. The TTC has benches and covered tables to sit at while you're waiting.

Trip Report

Here's a report on the LYNX bus option from MouseSavers.com reader Christine R, who used it in October 2009:

I used the tip to take the LYNX public bus to and from the airport. It worked great! Your article seemed a little bit cautious to recommend taking the bus, but I can say my experience was wonderful!

This trip it was just me and my six year old godson. We had four bags (2 suitcases and 2 backpacks), and it wasn't difficult to get them on the bus at all. There was actually some room under the front seat, and I stuck the bags there so they wouldn't be in the way. The bags weren't a hindrance for other passengers. The bus was very spacious and clean. I felt very safe traveling on it. It looks very similar to the Disney Resort bus on the inside. You need to make sure you have exact change to ride. My six year old did not have to pay.

Thank you to Deb S, Christine R, Nicole C, Cara Z and Sue L for info.
