The Year of a Million DreamsOn October 1, 2006, Disney began a new celebration called The Year of a Million Dreams, which was originally to run through 2007, but has now been extended through the end of 2008. The promotion emphasizes special experiences that you can't buy for any amount of money -- they are only available at Disney's theme parks for those lucky enough to win them. Through the Disney Dreams Giveaway, guests may have an opportunity to experience fabulous Disney "dreams" such as spending a night in Cinderella Castle, or traveling around the world as a parade Grand Marshal to visit all the Disney theme parks. The giveaway also includes hundreds of thousands of small items such as a special FASTPASS allowing the bearer to jump to the head of the line on every FASTPASS attraction for one day, or a lanyard and pin set. Disney has commissioned renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz to create portraits in which celebrities appear as Disney characters in classic fairy tale settings. The "Disney Dream Portrait Series" is being used to promote the Year of a Million Dreams celebration.
To announce the extension through 2008 of the successful “Year of a Million Dreams,” Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida teamed to create the first-ever Disney Dreams Catalog showcasing fabulous dreams that will be awarded in the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway. Guests may browse the catalog online at 2008disneydreamcatalog.com. This first-ever Disney Dreams Catalog is a sky’s-the-limit showcase brimming with amazing dreams that only Disney can make come true, such as a private tropical island paradise for the day, a VIP overnight stay inside Disneyland, a royal New Year’s Eve inside the Cinderella Castle Suite, a star-studded trip to the High School Musical 3 film premiere and a globetrotting trip to be the parade Grand Marshal in Disney theme parks on three continents. And that’s just for starters. But the one thing guests won’t see when browsing the online catalog? Price tags. That’s because the Disney Dreams Catalog is priceless – literally. It all adds up to over one million more dreams that will be awarded in 2008. To see more about the 2008 prizes, click here. During the 2007 Year of a Million Dreams celebration, Disney Cast Members will award a million dreams -- both large and small, including many "money-can't-buy" experiences -- to guests selected through a random process as part of the Disney Dreams Giveaway. The "impossible" includes the creation of over-the-top, overnight experiences for winning guests at both East and West Coast resorts: a royal suite inside Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort and a Mickey Mouse Penthouse at Disneyland Resort. A day of royal treatment ends with a night of enchantment inside Cinderella Castle for a different lucky guest each night. The Cinderella Castle Suite allows Disney guests to stay overnight inside the park and enjoy a view shared only by Tinker Bell. The lavishly decorated suite is located in a space originally planned as an in-park apartment for the use of the Disney family. And for a lucky Disneyland guest, each night, the all-new Mickey Mouse Penthouse at Disneyland Hotel pours on the Mickey charm and includes magical views overlooking both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks. The extraordinary penthouse is decorated in all things Mickey, with finishing touches by none other than Minnie Mouse herself. To see more about the 2007 prizes, click here.
