Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is located near Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, about one hour’s drive from Walt Disney World and very near Disney’s Port Canaveral cruise terminal. It’s a fascinating place to visit and also adds an educational element to a Florida vacation. Highlights of the Visitor Complex include the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, the Rocket Garden, the Space Shuttle Atlantis, an IMAX theater and Planet Play, a space-themed activities for kids ages 2-12. The Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour is included with your admission and is highly recommended! The bus tour lets you view restricted areas at Kennedy Space Center and takes you to the Apollo/Saturn V Center.  

Kennedy Space Center is cashless. Kennedy Space Center only accepts card and mobile payments at all locations including their restaurants, retail stores, and parking toll booths. If you only have cash you can convert your cash to a MasterCard prepaid debit card at one of the kiosks located throughout the visitor complex and Apollo/Saturn V Center at no charge.

Tips and Advice about Kennedy Space Center Tickets

Kennedy Space Center tickets are only valid on a specific date and are non-refundable, so be sure you have the specific date you want to go locked down before purchasing. The cost is the same no matter what date you pick, but you are required to pick a date. Two-Day admission tickets require you to pick the first date of your visit and then you have up to 6 months to use the second visit. The 1-Day and 2-Day admission tickets include the Kennedy Space Center bus tour. Seniors (age 55 and up) get a discount on admission, but you cannot purchase those tickets in advance; you must buy them at the gate. 

In addition to regular admission, there are several add-on experiences and tour packages that you can purchase. 

There are Annual Passes for individuals and a Family Annual Pass, good for 2 adults and up to 4 children (ages 3-11). Annual Passes include a year of unlimited admission to Kennedy Space Center, FREE parking, discounts on guest tickets and other benefits. An annual pass may be worth purchasing if you think you will visit more than once this year or can take advantage of the other perks and benefits.  

Kennedy Space Center occasionally has special offers on tickets. However, be sure to compare the total cost of their offer with the cost of the same ticket from Undercover Tourist; you may find you get a slightly better deal through Undercover Tourist.

AAA Ticket Discounts

Each AAA (Auto Club) region has a different ticket policy. Not all regions carry discounted Kennedy Space Center tickets; regions that do carry the tickets may offer various promotions, which will come and go. You can only purchase tickets online through your own local club. You can generally purchase in person at any AAA club location throughout the USA by showing your card, but you’ll want to make sure the club in question has tickets in stock.

Auto Club South offers AAA members a discount on Kennedy Space Center admission when purchased in advance either in person or online. Note that it can take several days for Auto Club South tickets to be delivered via email – call ahead to check before you head to Orlando.

Senior Citizen Ticket Discounts

Senior citizens (age 55 and up) get a discount on 1-Day and 2-Day Kennedy Space Center tickets, but you cannot purchase those tickets in advance; you must buy them at the gate. Be sure to compare the total cost of this senior citizen ticket with the cost of a regular adult ticket from Undercover Tourist; at times you may find you get a slightly better deal through Undercover Tourist.

Military Ticket Discounts

Eligible members of the US Military (active, retired and veterans) can purchase up to 6 discounted adult and/or child date-specific tickets in advance through the Kennedy Space Center website. You will need to verify your military affiliation online or at Will Call. 

Active and retired military receive special discounted pricing to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex when purchasing tickets through their participating ITT/MWR office. There is also a discount for military on Armed Forces Day (3rd Saturday in May).

Active military also receive a 10% discount on merchandise and food when presenting their ID inside the Visitor Complex.

University of Central Florida – Kennedy Space Center Ticket Discounts

Students, faculty and staff at University of Central Florida can purchase a limited number of Kennedy Space Center tickets at a significantly reduced rate. Tickets can be purchased through the SGA Ticket Center located on the first floor of the Student Union. Be sure to buy in advance because they do sell out at times. Thanks to Amanda for info.

United States, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands Teacher Pass

United States, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Island K-12 teachers can get an Educator Study Pass that provides complimentary access to the Visitor Complex and KSC’s Educator Resource Center (ERC). To be eligible for this teacher’s resource, educators must bring a printed copy of one of the following items to Will Call: an active teaching certificate from the United States, Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands; a badge with a photo that shows the title Teacher or Educator for K-12; or a letter on school letterhead, dated and signed by the principal listing the name of the teacher, stating they are an educator at the school. Go City Orlando Pass Discounts

Go City Orlando Pass is an all-inclusive pass that allows you to visit as many attractions as you want within a set number of days (usually 2 to 5 days). You pay one discount price for the number of days you choose. These work well if you are visiting at least two major attractions plus some less expensive attractions. The more attractions you visit, the more you save.

Transportation to Kennedy Space Center from Orlando

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is on Merritt Island, near Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral. It is about an hour drive from Walt Disney World. If you are staying in Cocoa Beach/Port Canaveral, it is a 20-30 minute drive from most of the hotels. Here’s a rundown of the various options for getting there.

Rental Car

Renting a car for one day is usually the most direct and convenient option for those at Walt Disney World or those staying near Universal Orlando or SeaWorld. You can rent a car just for the day from several locations around the Orlando area, including several on Walt Disney World property. Cab/Town Car/Rideshare

If you are staying in Port Canaveral, a cab or rideshare is a good option. The Kennedy Space Center is only about 20-30 minutes away from most of the hotels in the area. 

If you are staying in Orlando, this is doable, but more expensive. You can get an estimate of the fare that’s pretty accurate from the ride.guru site, where the fare is based on actually mapping out the drive and allowing for normal traffic and so forth.
