Sheraton Vistana Resort is a beautifully-landscaped 135-acre condominium style resort located just off S. Apopka Vineland Road (535), very close to several entrances to the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida. It’s a a short 10-15 minute drive to the Walt Disney World parks and 15-20 minutes to Universal Orlando. This MouseSavers Preferred Hotel features 1- and 2-bedroom fully-furnished condominium-style villas that easily suit large parties and families. While the resort seems huge when you first arrive, excellent signage and maps guide you easily through the resort’s condo phases, and to the various swimming pools, restaurants and activities centers. Lovely jogging paths, paved walkways and bridges within the resort minimize pedestrian traffic in the roadways and parking areas. Once you’ve settled in, there is a feeling of being in your own relaxed resort oasis, where you can have ‘a vacation from your vacation’ with all the comforts of a home away from home. Sheraton Vistana Resort ranked #10 in TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice 2015 Top 25 Best Family Properties in the United States, and received a 2016 Certificate of Excellence. Sheraton Vistana Resort is a vacation ownership property that also provides standard hotel services.
Every 1 or 2-bedroom villa offers a view of a water feature or a garden view, and includes a well-appointed and comfortable living room with a pull-out full-size sofa bed, a separate dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen or kitchenette with a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven, cooktop, oven (or convection microwave in some 1-bedroom units), coffee maker, blender, toaster and dishware, as well as cookware and utensils. Standard features include two or three LCD TVs with cable channels, a Bose Home Theater System in the living room, CD/DVD players, an in-room safe, A/C and ceiling fans, two telephones with dataports and voicemail, and FREE wireless high-speed Internet. Every villa also includes an iron and full-size ironing board and a washer and dryer. Complimentary Starbucks coffee is also provided, as are bathing sundries such as shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Bedrooms are pleasantly furnished and feature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper™ beds with their signature white luxurious bedding.
While some phases of the resort were built in the 80’s and have somewhat dated exteriors, every villa in the resort underwent a massive interior facelift and renovation that was completed in 2013. Furnishings, fixtures and finishes are all very much up to date. Each villa is uniquely decorated with original artwork making no two villas identical. All villas are 100% non-smoking. There are designated smoking areas in several outdoor locations around the resort.
If you are used to staying in a standard hotel room, you will find that the amenities of a villa make your stay even more enjoyable. A villa gives you space to spread out, bedroom privacy, and the ability to prepare your own food. Using real plates and silverware feels more civilized and relaxing than eating pizza perched on the edge of a hotel bed. Combining the comforts of home, like a washer and dryer in your villa, with the atmosphere of a luxurious resort, just makes vacationing less stressful. The cost is about the same as a moderately-priced hotel, but you get much more.
All 1-bedroom villas sleep up to 4 guests, with one king-size bed in the bedroom and a full-size sofa bed in the living room. Because the various resort areas were constructed in different phases, the floor plans vary slightly. 1-bedroom villas range in size from 324 square feet to 471 square feet. While it is not possible to request a specific layout or village location in advance, you can be assured that all of the units are similarly well furnished and are a good value. You can request a rollaway bed for $5/day.
The kitchenette in the smaller 1-bedrooms has almost everything you would want for making light meals, including a regular refrigerator, an electric cooktop, and a convection microwave. There is not much counter space in the smaller units. If having a full-size kitchen for serious cooking is important to you, our recommendation is to get a 2-bedroom villa. If all you need is enough to toast some bagels, cook a small pizza, make microwave popcorn, or do stove top cooking, the kitchenette will be fine.
2-bedroom villas sleep up to 8 guests, and offer a full 1,025 square feet of living space. There are two full bathrooms with separate vanity sink areas. The master bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and an adjoining full bath with Jacuzzi style tub. A separate guest room includes two twin beds and the living room has a full-size sofa bed. All 2-bedrooms have three LCD TV televisions, a private screened balcony or patio with a table and seating for 4, an indoor dining area which seats 6, and a breakfast bar that seats 2.
The 2-bedroom villas are an exceptional value, and well worth considering if you have a large family or just enjoy having room to spread out. The full-size kitchen and dining area is a big plus if you plan to do significant amounts of cooking, and the larger living room allows everyone to relax together or watch a movie in comfort.
Sheraton Vistana Resort includes two properties separated by Meadow Creek Drive: the larger, more established main section of the resort is south of Meadow Creek Drive and includes the newly renovated reception building, and the condo-style village phases called Cascades, Springs, Palms, Falls, and Spas. North of Meadow Creek Drive are the Fountains I, Fountains II and Lakes phases. The buildings in each phase surround large beautifully landscaped water features, some with fountains, and both properties have restaurants and swimming pools. All amenities within each of the two properties are accessible by foot, and navigation around the resort is fairly simple. Surrey bikes seating 2 or 4 people are available for rent if you want to explore the resort trails or just have fun while getting from place to place. If you are staying in the main section of the resort, you may want to drive if you are visiting the Fountains or Lakes phases or the Tacky Tiki Bar & Grill. It’s about a 15 minute walk from main resort’s entrance and you’ll need to cross the wide and sometimes busy Meadow Creek Drive.
There are 7 separate outdoor swimming pools on the Sheraton Vistana Resort properties, each with its own unique design and amenities. For instance, the Cascades pool offers a whimsical water fall, a separate kiddie pool area with water jets, and a heated outdoor whirlpool. The Falls pool boasts a waterslide, the Springs pool has a sauna and steam room nearby. Most pools have a kiddie or zero-entry pool area and heated whirlpools, and all have umbrellas or areas shaded by tropical foliage offering relief from the sun. Complimentary cabanas are available on a first-come first-served basis at the Cascades, Fountains, Lakes, Springs and Super Pools.
Poolside food and beverage service is available from the Castaways Bar & Grill next to the Cascades pool area, from the Outpost at the Falls pools, and from Tacky Tiki Bar & Grill at the Fountains pool. This is a very nice feature if you just want to spend some lazy time hanging out by the pool.
Guests have complimentary access to all of the amenities throughout the resort, including the pools, playgrounds, tennis on clay or hard court surfaces, the recreation center with gaming arcades, and 3 Sheraton fitness centers (guests must be age 18+ or accompanied by an adult to use the fitness centers). There is also an Animal Trax miniature golf course in the resort (there is a fee of $5 per player). There are multiple outdoor barbeque areas, some with picnic tables, should you feel the need to throw your own steak on the grill. Some of the poolside bars feature live entertainment during evening happy hour.
The resort has an impressive array of scheduled daily and evening activities for kids, tweens, teens and adults. Among these are staffed arts & crafts lessons, such as glass fusion and tie-dye workshops. At poolside, in addition to hair wraps, braiding and temporary tattoos, for an additional fee you can attend a SCUBA Academy for basic scuba instruction. Aqua yoga and zumba classes are available on select days. On Wednesdays, Gatorland brings some of their “friendly critters” to the resort for an educational hands-on experience. Wine-tasting, karaoke, BINGO, movie nights and dance events are also available. Times, frequency and specific events may change by season, and, of course, some are subject to weather conditions. Upon arrival you will receive a printed calendar of specific activities and events for that week. Some of the activities have an extra fee or materials cost associated with them. Call the front desk or main activities center to find out what the fees are in advance if this is a concern to you.
New!This resort also hosts a brand new “In & Out Gift Emporium” escape game, an immersive alternative reality game where players must solve puzzles and crack codes in order to escape a room– and, in this case, save exotic animals from being sold on the black market. Reservations should be made in advance, and tickets are $35/person.
There are several restaurants and dining options available at SVR. Zimmie’s Restaurant, in the center of the main resort, was just remodeled and has an upscale yet casual feel, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The menu features classic breakfast/ buffet, lunch and dinner selections. There’s also the Tacky Tiki Bar and Grill which is located in the Fountains resort area and offers ‘surf-themed’ selections, burgers, pizza, salads and tropical drinks. Near the Cascades pool is the Castaways Bar & Grill which is open late, and serves appetizers, sandwiches, wraps and salads along with custom libations. There are large-screen TVs in all of the restaurant bar areas if you want to keep up on sporting events or other happenings during your meal. The Outpost Bar, located near the Falls pool is a small seasonal jungle-themed bar serving signature cocktails, smoothies and sodas. Food at the Outpost can be ordered from Zimmie’s menu. In-suite dining service is also available from the Tacky Tiki Bar and Grill menu.
The Marketplace is the resort’s grocery store, deli and Starbucks coffee shop all in one, located in the center of the main resort. It and carries everything you could need: fresh fruits, prepared foods, groceries, sundries and drugstore items, a variety of gifts and souvenirs, and a Boar’s Head deli that makes sandwiches to order.
There are many chain restaurants nearby. If you plan to have most of your meals at the resort, a grocery pre-stock service is available from the Marketplace, but you’ll probably want to stock up at the nearby Publix grocery store, which is about 10 minutes drive.
The resort offers a full-service 24-hour front desk with express check-in/out, a tour desk, ticket services, baggage storage, ATM, currency exchange and concierge service. Luggage assistance to your villa is not normally provided, as this is an ownership resort and most owners tend to arrive with their own car or a rental car, park near their villa, and carry their own bags to their room.
Because the Sheraton Vistana Resort is a vacation ownership property, you may be asked at check-in if you are interested in hearing about their vacation ownership program. If you are not interested, “no thank you” is all you need to say; they will not ask again. If you are interested in ownership, you will be asked to attend a sales presentation, often in exchange for a gift of some kind. Presentations can last anywhere from one hour to several hours depending on your interest. You are not obligated in any way to attend a sales presentation.
When comparing the Sheraton Vistana Resort to other vacation ownership resorts and rates, keep in mind that many vacation ownership properties do not include daily housekeeping. Some charge a fee of as much as $60/day for room cleaning! The MouseSavers rates at Sheraton Vistana Resort include daily housekeeping. Also there are no resort fees, FREE parking, and FREE internet at the Sheraton Vistana Resort. Those fees can add up to $50/day or more at some Orlando hotels.
If you don’t want daily housekeeping, Sheraton Vistana Resort offers the option of complimentary Zimmie’s Restaurant breakfast coupons for 2 people in place of housekeeping services for each day that services are declined. Make sure you tell the receptionist when checking in if you’d like to forgo housekeeping for the complimentary breakfast coupons.**
Having a rental car is a good idea when staying at the Sheraton Vistana Resort. The resort offers shuttle transportation to the Walt Disney World Transportation Center for $9 roundtrip per person. From there, you can get a Disney monorail or bus to the other Walt Disney World parks and resorts. You’ll need to contact Sheraton’s Tickets & Transportation Desk 24 hours in advance for reservations. The resort also offers transportation to Universal and SeaWorld for a fee. The transportation to and from the parks is adequate, but the times and dropoff points are not flexible. Driving yourself will be significantly more convenient. It’s just 10-15 minutes to the Walt Disney World parks, 15-20 minutes to Universal Orlando, and 10-15 minutes to SeaWorld.
We visited Vistana Resort recently at one of the busiest times of the year. While completely sold-out, the resort was still very peaceful and relaxing, although the pools were teeming with guests. You’ll want to show up early to the pools during peak season if you want to claim a poolside lounge chair or umbrella. The resort was kept up beautifully and our suite was well-appointed and comfortable. The resort is both family- and adult-friendly. If you want a day off from the parks, there are plenty of ways to stay entertained right in the resort and within a minute’s walk from your villa.
Both Vistana Resort and its sister resort the Sheraton Vistana Villages are an excellent choice if you are visiting the parks for more than 2 or 3 days and want room to spread out and the ability to cook or prepare your own meals. If your primary destination is Walt Disney World, Sheraton Vistana Resort is a bit closer and will save you some driving time. Vistana Resort is also larger in scale and there are more on-site restaurants, lounges and entertainment.
The sister property, Sheraton Vistana Villages is not far away, but is in a slightly better location if you’re headed to Universal, SeaWorld or other I-Drive attractions or outlet malls in addition to visiting Walt Disney World. The room sizes are slightly larger at the Sheraton Vistana Villages, although both properties have 2-bedroom villas that sleep 8 guests. The Vistana Villages is smaller and has fewer dining and evening entertainment options than its larger cousin. Either way, both of these resorts offer the same ‘home away from home’ feel and provide exceptional value for the cost.
