Alamo is the "official" rental car company for Disney. If you buy a vacation package from Disney that includes a rental car, it will be an Alamo car.

Locations Near Disney World and Disneyland

Alamo is located on airport property in Orlando. You can just walk right out to the garage to pick up your car.

Alamo also has locations on the Walt Disney World property at the Car Car Center, Dolphin Hotel near Disney's BoardWalk and Buena Vista Palace near Downtown Disney.

Alamo is located on airport property in Orange County, CA (SNA). It has a regular shuttle at LAX.

Alamo also has a location at Disneyland (California), in Downtown Disney near the AMC movie theater.

Avoiding the Counter

Many MouseSavers.com readers have reported extremely long lines at Alamo in Orlando. Try the strategies below.

Online Check-in and Self-Service Kiosks

Alamo now allows you to bypass the rental counter if you check in online or at the self-service kiosks.

• The kiosks are VERY easy to use and a lot of people ignore them, so there is seldom a wait to use one. You can save a ton of time this way. To check in at the self-service kiosk you need to have a valid driver's license, a major credit card, and an advance reservation. You show your rental agreement and driver's license (and any coupon you may be using) at the exit booth in the parking garage. Thanks to Dan M for info.

• No membership is required to check in online, but it is easier if you register for a free membership to their website. Unfortunately, online check-in is not compatible with certain discounts. Thanks to Bill B for info.

Quicksilver Program

MouseSavers.com reader Paul W suggests joining the FREE Alamo Quicksilver program before your trip, as it may reduce the time in line. Alamo's Quicksilver program is not as good as its sister company National's Emerald Aisle service, which allows you to go straight out and pick your own car, bypassing the whole line completely. However, Quicksilver is sometimes an improvement over waiting in the "regular" Alamo line with everyone else. Quicksilver allows you to preregister all of your credit card and drivers license info so that you wait in the "Silver Service" line, which may be shorter. You also get a 10% discount on your rental (which can't be combined with other discounts or coupons), and Quicksilver members don't have to pay an additional driver fee in most cases.

Quicksilver members can also use the self-service kiosks, which is often faster than waiting in the "Silver Service" line.

Note: at Orlando airport, Quicksilver allows you go to straight out to the parking garage and check in at the booth there. There is usually no line at the garage booth. Thanks to Julie P for additional info.

Discounts, Codes and Coupons

To find the best rates, I recommend trying every code that applies to your travel dates and desired car type when checking rates for Alamo online. Just type the code into the appropriate box on the Alamo web site.

		You can now combine some rate codes with an ID# and save more at Alamo! For example, you may be able to use a rate code from the Alamo Hot Deals section of their web site plus an ID# to get additional savings.

Additional Driver Fee

With Alamo, all additional drivers will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day unless they are members of Quicksilver or have a Corporate Contract Agreement. Fees are waived for additional drivers who are renting under corporate contracts or who are members of Quicksilver.

Quicksilver Members in the United States are allowed to have the following additional drivers without a fee:

• Quicksilver member's spouse, common law spouse, or domestic partner who has the same address on the driver's license as the Quicksilver member and who meet normal renter requirements.

• Immediate family member, Mother/Father, Son/Daughter, or Brother/Sister who has the same address on the driver's license as the Quicksilver member and who meet normal renter requirements.

Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:

• Commercial (corporate) rentals, the renter's business partner, employer or fellow associate, who has an a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

• The military ID #s below work like a corporate contract and include a FREE additional driver.

• If you are a Sam's Club member and use the ID # for Sam's Club when renting your car, the extra driver fee is waived, as that ID# is considered a corporate contract. Ask at your local Sam's Club for the membership ID # to use. Thanks to Jon S for info.

• If you are a Costco member and use the ID # for Costco when renting your car, the extra driver fee is waived, as that ID# is considered a corporate contract. Ask at your local Costco for the membership ID # to use.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge. The additional driver can only be added to the contract at the pick up location.

Prepay and Save

Get an extra 10%-15% off (varies seasonally) the lowest rates when you book your rental at Alamo.com and prepay in full. A cancellation fee is charged to your credit card if you cancel a prepaid reservation. 24-hour advance reservation required.

MouseSavers.com reader Lisa R points out that "if you use the Pre-pay option with Alamo, it may negate member benefits (Costco, etc), such as unlimited miles, free additional driver, etc. I used Costco's corporate i.d. to get a great base rate with Alamo. When I added the pre-pay code, it lowered the total but the 'One Free Additional Driver' benefit disappeared from the confirmation page. I called Alamo and they said that the pre-pay option voided the free driver benefit from Costco. Given that additional drivers costs an average of $10 PER DAY, it may not be worth it to go with the pre-pay option."

Discount Codes

The codes below are good for anyone to use and unless otherwise noted, do not require a paper coupon. However, some of them will work only for certain dates and/or car types, and some have blackout dates over certain holidays -- so if one doesn't work, try another. Rates do not include taxes and fees. Some of these rate codes can now be combined with an ID # for additional savings.

• First, check the Alamo web site for specials. Click on the red "Hot Deals" tab for a list of current offers.

• The Entertainment Book offers a special Rate Code for Alamo that can be combined with the numerous coupons in the book. See book for the code.

ID# and Corporate Codes

• For last-minute (up to 14 days in advance) rates, you can try ID# IG. This is an ongoing last-minute Internet promotion at Alamo and is not always available for every destination, but if available you can sometimes get a great rate. Thanks to Lindsey for info.

• MasterCard cardholders get up to 20% off rentals at Alamo. Visit the MasterCard "Priceless" web site to get the ID#. You must use your MasterCard to rent the car. Thanks to Brenda S for info.

• Visa cardholders get up to 20% off rentals at Alamo. Visit the Visa discounts web site to get the ID#. You must use your Visa card to rent the car.

• Disney World Annual Passholders get up to 20% off rentals at Alamo. Use ID# provided in your pass sleeve or on the Passholder web site.

• Disney Vacation Club members get up to 10% off rentals at Alamo. Use ID# provided in the member newsletter or on the member web site.

• Warehouse clubs such as Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club may offer discounts on Alamo to their members. If you are a member, see the store for specific codes.

• Military discounts - ID# M1 is for active duty military personnel traveling for leisure and ID# RM is for retired military personnel. Both rates include an additional driver. A military ID card must be presented when you pick up the car. Thanks to Shelli for this info.

• Alamo offers AARP discounts to its members (you must be 50 or older), but you must call and ask for them. Thanks to Gail H for info.

Coupons

Most coupons issued by Alamo are electronic and do not require a physical coupon. Some other coupons listed below will require a printout or paper coupon. Be sure to take it with you when renting the car. Most coupons will list a specific Contract ID to be used along with the coupon code, but dozens of readers report using their coupons with Contract IDs other than the ones specified.

• Get a double upgrade on a Compact through Midsize car. Go to the Alamo web site and use the coupon code AU2852SDA when booking. No physical coupon required. Valid on rentals picked up by 8/31/10, but holidays and other blackout dates may apply.

• Get $30 off weekly rental of a Compact through Luxury, Minivan, SUV or Convertible. Go to the Alamo web site and use the coupon code AD2123JMC when booking. 5-day minimum rental. No physical coupon required. Valid on rentals picked up by 8/31/10, but holidays and other blackout dates may apply.

• Get $25 off 3-day or longer rental of any car. Go to the Alamo web site and use the coupon code AD5691JDV when booking. 3-day minimum rental. No physical coupon required. Valid on rentals picked up by 8/31/10, but holidays and other blackout dates may apply.

• Get $25 off weekly rental of a Compact through Luxury, Minivan, SUV or Convertible. Go to the Alamo web site and use the coupon code AD6974JDM when booking. 5-day minimum rental. No physical coupon required. Valid on rentals picked up by 8/31/10, but holidays and other blackout dates may apply.

• Get a FREE weekend day when you rent a Compact through Fullsize Car. Go to the Alamo web site and use the coupon code AF4331SDA when booking. Valid for 3-5 day rental with a Saturday overnight. • Get a FREE one car class upgrade when you rent a Compact through Midsize car. Go to the Alamo web site and use the coupon code AU2729MJW when booking. No physical coupon required. Valid on rentals picked up by 12/31/10.

• The 2010 Entertainment Book offers several coupons for Alamo, including one free day (minimum 5 day rental with Saturday overnight of Compact or larger car), $25 off (minimum 3 day rental with Saturday overnight of Convertible, Minivan or SUV), $20 off (minimum 4 day rental with Saturday overnight of Compact or larger car), $15 off (minimum 3 day rental with Saturday overnight of Compact or larger car), $10 off (minimum 2 day rental with Saturday overnight of Compact or larger car) and free weekend day (minimum 3 day rental with Saturday overnight of Compact or larger car). UK Discount Sources

• UK residents: Alamo's UK site often offers excellent deals on Florida and California rentals, inclusive of unlimited mileage, CDW (collision damage waiver), state/local taxes, state/local surcharges, airport fees and sometimes even a full tank of petrol! Visit www.alamo.co.uk for details.

• UK residents may want to check Alamo rates at Nova Car, an international rental car booking site. Reader Cleve N reports that he got phenomenal rates at Christmastime through this site. You do have to pay a 15% deposit up front, and a reader reports that you MUST have a UK driving license to pick up the car.
