What Will You Celebrate?

What will you celebrate with Mickey?
© 2008 The Walt Disney Company

On January 1, 2009, Disney will begin a new marketing push focused on the question, What Will You Celebrate? This new promotion, replacing the 27-month-long Year of a Million Dreams, will emphasize special celebrations (including birthdays, anniversaries and more) in the Disney theme parks.

The 2009 celebration will include a FREE theme park ticket on your birthday as well as special new theming and entertainment in the parks.

Television commercials will use the image of a Mickey Mouse balloon following people engaged in their own day-to-day celebrations. You can see one of the new ads tied to this promotion here.

The first big kick-off to the new promotion will be Miley Cyrus' 16th birthday party at Disneyland, to be held on October 5, 2008. This Hollywood-style bash is sold out but you can see more information about "Miley's Sweet 16 - Share The Celebration" party at Disneyland by visiting disneyparks.com/miley

In addition, the What Will You Celebrate? Tour will take a parade of vehicles around North America this fall and winter, giving away Mickey balloons and giving people an opportunity to register for a chance to win a Disney Parks Celebration Vacation. See the tour schedule here.

Birthday Ticket Giveaway

Everyone who visits a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park on their birthday in 2009 can get in FREE!

Disney parks are the ultimate setting for any celebration, turning a special occasion into a magical Disney experience. And with the opportunity of FREE admission to a Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort theme park on your birthday in 2009, it's even more special.

To receive FREE admission to one of the Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks on your birthday in 2009, guests must bring valid ID including proof of birth date. The FREE ticket can be upgraded on your birthday to a higher-priced ticket, but you must pay the difference.

Guests who already hold a valid annual pass or multi-day ticket (such as those included in vacation packages) that they will use on their birthday may choose from other birthday treats instead; however, no cash refunds or credits will be given. The other treat options include:

  • A birthday fun card in an amount equal to the price of a One Day/One Park base ticket for you to use on your birthday for merchandise, recreation or fun activities at select participating locations; or

  • A special birthday FASTPASS badge for certain attractions at the Theme Park you visit on your birthday; or

  • A nonupgradeable One Day/One Park base ticket for you to use any time until your next birthday.

Guests can get more details and start the process by registering their birthdays at disneyparks.com.

New Theming & Entertainment

New in-park décor will invite guests at Walt Disney World and Disneyland to "Celebrate Today!"

As part of the new celebration, there will be the following new entertainment:

  • a new party-themed parade

  • a Stitch Dance Party in Tomorrowland

  • a new Street Party on Main Street U.S.A.

Special Celebration Experiences

In 2009, Disney Parks will help guests commemorate special moments in their lives in a way that the whole family remembers together.

No matter what you want to celebrate, Disney Parks will be ready to help! Commemorate your special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, graduations, personal triumphs and even your family's first time visit by having a wondrous Disney celebration!

Among add-on experiences guests can choose in 2009 to customize their “celebration vacation” (note that many of these options are already available):

  • Custom Bakery Cakes and Signature Desserts: Disney chefs create an unforgettable finale to a special dinner with a beautifully decorated cake themed to any occasion or a new line of celebration desserts.

  • For Lovebirds: Sweetheart dinners for two in which couples can clink “Celebrate Today!” champagne flutes.

  • Family Portraits: Capture the memory with a portrait session with Walt Disney World photographers. Build a custom photo album with Disney’s PhotoPass.

  • Personalized Souvenirs: Mark your occasion with personalized Mouse ears, character T-shirts and collectible pins.

  • Decorate Your Disney Guest Room: Step into a resort room decorated to fit your celebration theme with confetti, banners, surprises and more.

  • Stay Inside a Dream Theme: Book a themed guest room at either destination – princess-themed or Mickey-inspired at Disneyland or – coming in 2009 – pirate-themed at Walt Disney World Resort.

  • Set Sail: Book a private romantic cruise on a yacht or set your party afloat on a shared magical fireworks voyage.

  • Go Inside the Magic: Behind-the-scenes tours take you inside the storytelling, adventure and history of Disney Parks.

  • Disney Story Book Experiences: Choose from pirate adventures, tea parties, princess makeovers and more – all with the magic of Disney.

  • Disneyland Parties: “Celebration Roundup and Barbecue at Big Thunder Ranch,” all-new, is a full-blown party complete with frontier entertainment, goodie bags and a surprise treat for everyone – no matter what they’re celebrating. “My Disneyland Birthday Party” features cake decorating, party hats and even Mickey and Minnie pay a visit.
